The bonding method is the most modern technique of aesthetic dentistry by which we can change the colour, size and shape of the teeth and achieve a symmetrical, beautiful and white smile. It is a very widespread method because it combines speed, efficiency and low cost.
Bonding is the ideal method for patients who have a small or moderate orthodontic problem and do not want to undergo orthodontic treatment.
Also, with bonding there is the possibility for the patients, who want it, to create an exceptionally white and perfect smile, the so-called Hollywood smile.
The method requires little or no grinding of the front surface of the teeth. The material used is a composite resin and restoration is done at a session of two to three hours per jaw. The method involves placing a thin face of resin on the front of the tooth. After bonding, the resin is formed and then photopolymerized. Finally, the surface is smoothened and polished.
Advantages
For bonding only one visit of two-three hours to the dentist is required for each jaw.
Under no circumstances will bonding harm the teeth. It is one of the most conservative aesthetic methods. The teeth are not actually tilted.
Since we only intervene on the outside, if necessary, we may have to do any dental work (filling, root canal, etc.) in the future.
If there is a break (which is extremely rare), it is immediately corrected without having to repeat the process from scratch.
It is a completely painless method for which anaesthesia is not required.
There is the possibility of changing the shape and size of the teeth even after the process is complete.
Disadvantages
If we want whitening and bonding together, it should be borne in mind that whitening does not whiten the resin faces except natural teeth, which is why it would be good to whiten the teeth prior to bonding.
Bonding, like all resin restorations, darkens over time due to the consumption of tobacco, coffee, tea, red wine, cola and other dyes. With good oral hygiene (proper brushing twice a day) and systematic cleaning (every six months) the colour will remain stable for many years.
As all resins and facings can break (which is extremely rare), they are materials that can be repaired easily and quickly.
Indications for Bonding
The slightly or moderately crooked teeth.
Dark teeth or teeth with spots.
Broken teeth.
Gaps between the teeth.
The inclination of the teeth, if they are crooked.
The incorrect position of the teeth.
Short teeth due to construction or wear .
